Entertainment After Transmedia
As all media becomes increasingly digital, the term ‘transmedia’ may prove as temporary as ‘multimedia’. However, entertainment after transmedia will be built on the currently-emerging best practices of transmedia storytelling, only pushed even further. ENTERTAINMENT AFTER TRANSMEDIA is a workshop where executives from Microsoft Studios, Random House, and Blacklight will focus on methods for applying transmedia strategies when franchise planning – a real-world conversation about how different industries are embracing transmedia storytelling, with tips for preparing and executing a transmedia property. For creators, the workshop will cover how some general customs of transmedia storytelling can be applied to fictional universes, regardless of platform, for transmedia and beyond.

Beyond The 1 Sheet - Pen to Paper Returns
Following the success of last years 'From Pen To Paper', AllCity presents award winning UK film distributor Momentum Pictures in the sequel; Beyond The 1 Sheet. Attendees will once again join forces in a brainstorm with the creative team from AllCity but this year will benefit from the knowledge and insights of one of the UK's most successful film distributors. Using a hypothetical brief set by Momentum, the room will be asked to create an alternative marketing strategy to run alongside the main 1 Sheet campaign. From print and online to guerrilla and PR marketing we will discuss, explore and develop ideas that will create a memorable marketing campaign beyond the 1 Sheet. These ideas will be sketched up during the workshop in real time and critiqued at the end of the session. Chosen ideas will then be mocked up by the AllCity Studio at a later date.

The Not So Sexy Side Of Music For Film & TV
You have songs in your film that you need to license, but you have no idea how to get a quote, who to ask, and where to go. Sound familiar? Nowadays, independent filmmakers have to wear many hats, and understanding the basics of music licensing are a must. Whether you are submitting a project to festivals, streaming online or seeking distribution, music clearance is essential (YES, even if the artist says it’s OK).

In the world of licensing music for Film & TV, the sexy side, or creative side, seems to get a lot of the attention whereas the not-so-sexy side, or the business side, is somewhat daunting and unfamiliar. This panel will focus on making the business side of music in film more sexy and appealing. The panelists will discuss the many issues that one can encounter when clearing and licensing music, including: best practices to follow, avoiding disputes, resolving misunderstandings and possible legal action, and all of the paperwork required for your deliverables package.

Selling the Stories: The Art of The Trailer
Trailers are a unique form of advertising. The product is not a car or a shampoo. It's a story. And sometimes, that's a huge problem.

Drawing on two decades of experience, Mark Woollen, creator of trailers from Schindler’s List to The Social Network, and Myles Bender, Senior Vice President of Creative Advertising for Focus Features, will examine how audiovisual advertising persuades consumers to see specialty films.

When a film has a complicated plot or explores a subject matter with limited commercial appeal, creating a trailer that conveys enough narrative and emotional content to attract ticket-buyers is a challenge. With the presentation of case studies, this workshop will show you how studios have convinced movie-goers to see films that lack obvious marketing hooks.

The presenters will also reflect on experiences that have shaped their careers, and share advice on making a living, and trying not to lose your mind, in the trailer game.
