App.net Showcase for Mobile Apps
    Saturday March 10, 2012 4:00pm - 5:00pm @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)

The most interesting thing we could do is organize an event specifically for app developers looking to launch and get some thoughtful attention for their app.

Our vision for App.net has been to build tools that we as developers would personally want to use, and so we are trying to put together exactly the kind of event we would want to attend. i.e. we are not charging app developers for placement, we are not getting corporate sponsorship, we are not packing the event with too many apps or people.

The goal of our showcase is to drive discovery of new and noteworthy apps, and to actually move the needle for the developers who get a chance to present.

    App.net SXSW Showcase details:

App.net will provide a 10 minute presentation block to 6 app developers.
4 of the app slots are devoted to brand new apps launching
2 are for existing apps doing a significant relaunch
Capacity at the event will be small, but information about the apps at the event will be dispersed as widely as possible
We will film the presentation block and distribute the video of the presentation within 24 hoursApp.net will do our best to secure press coverage, app reviews and other promotion as part of this event.
Catered with Salt Lick barbecueAlso, Free Beer

If you are an app developer that is attending SXSW and would like the chance to present your app, please see this application form.

Interested folks should contact marketing@app.net for RSVP

Carletta Sue Kay
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 8:00pm - 8:35pm @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)
Carletta Sue Kay are equal parts Marianne Faithful, Joanna Newsom and Emmylou Harris, coupled with the song writing styles of Stephin Merritt and Cole Porter. The music gravitates toward the sadder side of life, lamenting much, regretting more. CSK is named after singer-songwriter Randy Walker’s real-life cousin who served a prison sentence for domestic terrorism and threatening to blow-up her ex-boyfriend with a pipe bomb. This is an auspicious inspiration for a musical persona who, performing with an obvious five-o’clock shadow, sings heart-wrenching yet transformative songs of love, life, and relationships told from the perspective of a woman. Carletta’s live performances have so riveted audiences that she has already secured an international following—before releasing even a single record. The debut Carletta Sue Kay lp Incongruent will be out this year on Kitten Charmer. Singer Randy Walker, aka Carletta was recently honored to record with the Magnetic Fields for their forthcoming and 10th album Love at the Bottom of the Sea on Merge.

Terrible Twos
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 8:50pm - 9:25pm @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)

Terrible Twos formed in 2004 in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Quickly moving to the city and helping form a new wave of damaged punk with their contemporaries Human Eye, Tyvek, Frustrations and the like. They released their debut single on local label X! records. More influenced by lesser known Detroit acts such as the Clone Defects and Piranhas, they offered a fresh ADD addled approach to Detroit rock welcomed by a new younger crowd. Not afraid of Synths and noise, but still bringing a high energy sound that recalls The Stooges, as well as "weirdo" punks the Screamers, Electric Eels and Voidoids. The band pumped out multiple singles on labels like Cass, Big Neck, Lemon Session and Italy, as well as a full length on Criminal IQ/X!. Touring across the country countless times on their own as well as with The Dirtbombs, Jay Reatard, Tyvek, Thomas Function, Human Eye and more. Terrible Twos are currently recording their new album that expands their sound with elements of everything from Black Metal to Pop.

CHAPTER 24 are Claire Smith (vocals), Joe Green (guitar), Mel Stark (bass) and Mark Castro (drums) from London. Mel and Claire got bored back in their school days and decided to start a band with Joe, and after eventually finding Mark through a myspace ad in 2008 they released their debut four-track EP in March 2011 on their own label Chaps Records. Influenced by late 70s punk, the Riot Grrrl movement and 60s psychedelia; Chapter 24’s enthusiasm for playing live shows has seen them open for Times New Viking, Japandroids and Thee Oh Sees. They are set to release a new single in Autumn with Odd Box records before heading on a 4 week tour of America.

Dirty Ghosts
    Thursday March 15, 2012 12:10am - 12:45am @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)

Like dirty ghosts, Allyson Baker and Carson Binks, two Toronto expats, rose from the ashes of their old San Francisco-based band Parchman Farm and formed Dirty Ghosts in 2006, a stripped down form of gritty garage and psychedelia with drum loop-y programming by hip-hop recording artist and producer Aesop Rock.
After looking for a singer with no luck, Baker finally and reluctantly said “fuck it” and has since added vocalist to her resume. But when she lost Binks in 2011 to Oakland stoner metal band Saviours, she had to take matters further, by re-working and re-recording the sound and amassing a new line-up featuring Erin McDermott, Nick Andre, and Ben Tuttle. The sound is pretty funky and new wave rock-y with Speak & Spell-era Depeche Mode beats in the background. Baker’s powerful vocals are heartfelt and prominent, not awash in reverb as so many singers are these days — pretty ballsy for someone who never wanted to be a vocalist.
The band’s debut LP Metal Moon is out February 21 on Last Gang Records. With an upcoming US tour and appearances at both Noise Pop and SXSW festivals, as well as a concerted effort to get new with their style and stay fresh, Dirty Ghosts are worth keeping your eye on in 2012.

Bare Wires
    Thursday March 15, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)

Bare Wires patent their own brand of electrified garage punk, fusing glam glitter pop with garage punk grime, producing a sound that has been called everything from “Soft Punk” to “Leather Jacket Rock”. The Oakland-based trio started in 2007 as a side project of Matthew Melton with the release of a crude garage punk single entitled “Voodoo Doll”, released on European label Solid Sex Lovie Doll. Adding his own analog recording system into the mix in search of a rawer sound, Melton continued to record under the name Bare Wires, releasing the Artificial Clouds LP on Tic Tac Totally in 2009. With solid mid-fi production and a minimalist aesthetic, Artificial Cloudsdisposed the jagged, proto-punk edges of the previous recordings and moved towards a smoother, hook-laden, but no less scrappy sound. Bare Wires new “smooth punk” aesthetic was expressed on the Let Down 7″ (Milk n Herpes), a dirty, sleazy pair of fuzz-doused songs with guitars ripping through a crunching amplifier on a hazy cloud of smoke. With their latest album, Cheap Perfume, Melton delivers ten stadium-ready tracks of glam-infused, rock n’ roll gems, still remaining true to the sincerity and authenticity that has become his songwriting trademark.

Housemeister
    Thursday March 15, 2012 11:15pm - 12:00am @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)
Housemeister never sleeps. Playing everywhere and every weekend ever since '97, the legendary DJ has cultivated his own brand of rave around the world: relentless, hardcore, dirty dancefloor ecstasy. Hands in the air, booties bouncing: techno in its total beauty. 4 releases on Ellen Alien's BPitch Control, a killer debut album „Enlarge your Dose“ on Boysnoize Records; 10 tracks and his legendary second album „Who is that Noize?“on his own label allyoucanbeat; several more BNR maxis and the march 2011 release of full-length madness „Shizzo“, produced with BoysNoize himself, have certainly kicked Housemeister on top of the pile of world class hellraisers and prepared audiences for his latest solo album effort out on BNR: „Music is Awesome“. When you put it simple like that after 15 years of destroying dancefloors, when you're releasing on rave label number one, when your friends Modeselektor are calling you „the best DJ on earth“, you don't need a pussy ass biography, now do ya!?

    DJEDJOTRONIC
Djedjotronic (Jeremy Cottereau) discovered electronic music through Warp and UR a decade ago. Jeremy started his career meeting the now famous Popof, releasing several collaborations and touring together under the name « Wee-‐Kids ».
His particular style is a mix between pumping computer beats and insane techno, all about making people rave.
Djedjotronic’s smashing debut EP "Turn Off" was released in 2007 on Level75 and got huge support.
His second EP “Dirty & Hard” was a collaboration with South African rapper Spoek released on Boysnoize Records in March 2009.
2010 has also been a fruitful year for Djedjotronic. Apart from appearance on “Miami Noize” compilation by Boysnoize Records with his track “Feta”, his third maxi EP “Bit This Thin” was released on the same label. It's a fusion of modern jackin’ House and Techno music, creating a sound which crosses genre boarder.
This great success gave him the chance to work on remixes of well-‐known artists like Unkle, DSL, Das Pop, Tiga, Birdy Nam Nam, Etienne De Crecy, The Faint, Boysnoize, Gonzales, Chromeo to name a few.
Touring alone or playing together with his colleagues from Boysnoize Records crew Djedjotronic has now participated in most of major electronic events worldwide. Pukkelpop (BE), Dour (BE), Mystery Land (NL), Plages Electroniques (FR), Sonar (ES), Nuit Sonore (FR) are just some of the festivals he has recently played. 2010 was a special year for Jeremy as it is the first time when he played at I Love Techno (BE), the 15th year of this famous electronic music festival.

Strip Steve
    Friday March 16, 2012 12:30am - 1:00am @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)

As any cool kid of the 90's, Strip Steve grew up with Offspring, the
passion more or less regular of skateboard, and the art of
turntablism. Few scratches and a failure in a rap band after, he
remembered how much Armand van Helden, Cassius & Daft Punk's videos he
used to watch before "Yo MTV rap" started, torn his sentimental life,
    and more his whole existence.
He started mixing at 14 with his first turntables, and slowly made
parties with his friends in his hometown (Bordeaux) that mixed every
kind of music they found exciting, with always one purpose: that the
    people had fun very simply.

2007, Steve is now 20 and listen for most to House & Techno. Inspired
by the masters Dj Sneak & Paul Johnson, as much as by listening to the
Crydamoure compilations, his goal is to bring back House where it
    should never left: the dancefloor.
And he knows how to do: his dj sets make crashing Chicago House
classics (Robert Armani, Dj Pierre, Marshall Jefferson, Armando...),
nowadays Techno Anthems (Boys Noize, the french record labels
Institubes & Ed Banger...), early 90's Rave
Ufos (this kid has fascination for for Prodigy & Bizarre Inc.) or the
best 12" electronic music has ever made (Masters at Work, Romanthony,
    Daft Punk, LFO, Joey Beltram...).

2008, At the beginning of the year Strip Steve released his first EP
on Boysnoize Records. Yet another proof by Labelboss Alex Ridha that
he supports young & fresh talents. Bookings all over Europe and his
first Austrlia Tour has been the result of it.
Many artists got interested to his own special sound and Remixes for
Shadow Dancer (BNR), Van She (Modular) and Outlander (R&S) followed.
Another huge milestone in his life took place on the 2nd half of the
year. Falling in love with the german capital Steve moved from his
mum's house in Bordeaux to Berlin to life as a free man and start
    concentrating on his music.
During tea time and a short session with Boys Noize, Steve
participates in the making of a track which will become a huge single
(named Jeffer) of the furthcoming Album calle"d Power".

2009, In this year finally the whole world could get inspired by the
Strip Steve sound. Every weekend another show. Tokyo, Sydney,
Auckland, Support Act for the "Boys Noize Power Tour" and whole Europe
were stops by the New Berliner.
During his Tour he still found time to work on banging remixes for
artists such as The Faint (BNR), Adam Sparkle & Dave P (Satellite of
Love), Das Glow (Institubes) and his 9 minute acid banger for
    G.L.O.V.E.S. (Bang Gang).
Although his neighbours freaked out, end 2009 Steve could finish his
new EP called Delta Disco. With great feedback of his fans and big
support by artists like 2many DJs, Busy P, Erol Alkan, Mylo, Dj Feadz, Boris Dlugosh, Andy & Jaymo (BBC One), Dexpistols, Surkin and Bobmo.

Building off a Left Coast legacy from Freestyle Fellowship to Pharcyde, the Quannum crew breathed life into Bay Area hip-hop previous to the new millennium with relentless creativity. Backpacker anthems "A to G" and "Alphabetic Aerobics" proved Blackalicious MC Gift of Gab one of the all-time great verbal acrobats, while Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truthspeaker pushed the sonic boundaries of hip-hop as Latyrx. Although not on the same label, Chali 2na, whose bouncing baritone anchored Jurassic 5 harmonies, embodied a similar ethos. Mr. Lif & Chief Xcel (of Blackalicious)
    Friday March 16, 2012 9:00pm - 9:30pm @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)

Lif began the usual path for an independent rap artist: long nights spent honing his craft in the studio as well as testing his skill at open-mic sessions. He self-produced his first few independent records ("Elektro", "The Nothing", "Inhuman Capabilities", "Farmhand") while guest spots on notable peers' records like Jedi Mind Tricks' Violent By Design and collaborations with fellow Bostonians such as Akrobatik and 7L & Esoteric further solidified Lif's foothold in the underground movement. Lif made his first significant impact on the local airwaves with his song "Madness in a Cup" which was released by Boston based "Brick Records". Always thinking nationally and globally, Lif kept his targets set on working with a diverse but small collection of labels to project his sound. After working with The Beastie Boys' label "Grand Royal", he struck gold when he handed his debut EP "Enters the Colossus" (2000) to Definitive Jux CEO El-P (of Company Flow) just a couple months after the label was formed.

11:00pm

Minnesota
    Friday March 16, 2012 11:00pm - 11:45pm @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)

From Thomas Fawcett, The Austin Chronicle:

The crew reunites on this night with help from West Coast vets Eligh & Amp Live, formerly of Living Legends and Zion I, respectively, who recently teamed up for Therapy at 3. (Shockingly accurately) self-described "half-retarded super electro-charged sex rap" of Colorado's Cobraconda opens, while Minnesota (the DJ, not the state) offers an interlude of throbbing dubstep and glitch-hop.
