SXSW 2012 is over. Head to the SXSW 2014 Schedule!
From Doug Freeman, The Austin Chronicle:
Leslie Sisson's elegant harmonies lent a delicate twang to a number of projects during the past decade, notably Matt Pond PA and the Wooden Birds. With last year's contrarily titled Harmony, the Brooklyn/Austin songstress stepped to the fore, her vocals showcasing shades of both Neko Case and Aimee Mann against a backdrop of mellow guitar tones that salve Sisson's songs of tangential emotion and affective restraint.
From Jim Caligiuri, The Austin Chronicle:
Frank Smith is a band. Led by Aaron Sinclair, a Boston resident until 2007, the now-local sextet just issued its third disc, Before You Were Born. It's a radical shift from the hazy rootsiness of its past to a rich amalgam of indie and classic rock styles. The title track even possesses a masterful Bob Seger rip, while the rest maintains Sinclair's lustrous, yet gloomy vision.
From Greg Beets, The Austin Chronicle:
These Guayaquil, Ecuador, alt-rockers became fast favorites on MTV Latin America with its 2009 single "Smoking Monkeys."
From Michael Bertin, The Austin Chronicle:
Avskurna Händerna (tack, Googles översätta).
From Michael Toland, The Austin Chronicle:
The Black Watch has put its own spin on British guitar pop since the Eighties, minus the following a combo with that kind of longevity deserves. It's not just persistence that makes TBW worth hearing, either. It's the intelligent tunesmithery of leader John Andrew Fredrick that's made the band a favorite of Jack Rabid and Trouser Press. The group's umpteenth album The End of When comes out later this year.
From Kevin Curtin, The Austin Chronicle:
Despite the name, the Moog's main attraction isn't analog keyboards; it's Tonyo Szabo. The Hungarian singer's accented voice puts tight, complicated, dark melodies over the band's midtempo, guitar-driven alt-rock. Upcoming LP Seasons in the Underground was produced by Ken Scott, who worked on such landmark records as Ziggy Stardust and The White Album. Early ears on the disc reveal a band that's grown out of imitating the American garage-rock revivalists and become something smoother and deeper.
