Dustin Wong
    Tuesday March 13, 2012 9:00pm - 9:40pm @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)
"When I begin to explore and to build a song through a series of pedals, I begin with the tuner. It helps keep my guitar's pitch consistent. An octave pedal and the distortion pedals allows me to change the textures and colors of the guitar. The delay pedal determines the tempo and the pattern. Once these sounds are determined, it then gets replicated and repeated through a loop pedal. Repeating that process, I lay different sounds and melodies on top. After the loop pedal comes the envelope filter that changes the color of the sounds but in a different way, more like a blend or like a dye. At the end of this chain of pedals awaits another delay pedal that corresponds to the delay pedal before the looper, further accentuating and changing the patterns of the loop.

G-Side
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)

From Chase Hoffberger, The Austin Chronicle:

On last January's The One ... Cohesive, G-Side preached Southern-fried street gospel in a dreamy haze best typified by "How Far," a track on which rappers Clova and ST sampled Beach House and brought dream pop to hip-hop. Island, December's welcome follow-up, bangs harder from the tip with verbal assaults "Cinematic" and "Atmosphere," but there's still a sense that the Huntsville, Ala., duo has its heads in the clouds. Or maybe that's just the work of in-house production crew Block Beattaz, which cut beats that fan out like the exhaust on Andre 3000's Cadillac.

Deniro Farrar
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 12:40am - 1:00am @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)
"Once in a while an artist comes along and shows so much heart, versatility and just genuine talent, that they're impossible to ignore. Therefore it's been no surprise to see Deniro Farrar flooding the pages of the internet's most respected and loved sites, and having so many of the industry's key future artists and producers working with him. The most recent result of all this is his wonderful debut album 'DESTINY. Altered' which features not only Deniro's poetic life-tales, but equally epic and moving production throughout from the likes of SKYWLKR, Ryan Hemsworth, Keyboard Kid, and David Heartbreak to name but a few. So many gems within and the kind of album that allows you so fully into all aspects of his world – you are made a believer. Featuring many SH favourites like Shady Blaze, SL Jones and the always magic 2 Lettaz on the help-out, this is one of those albums to live with for real. Cop it right here and let Deniro tell it better than we ever could. You may have just found yourself your new artist to root for…"- Southern Hospitality

Tammar
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 9:00pm - 9:40pm @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)
On Visits, Tammar pulls off a pretty incredible trick with each and every one of its post-punk anthems, probably something of which the band doesn’t take much note. They mine the classic sounds of paranoia, malaise and misanthropy (Joy Division, The Velvet Underground, The Fall and early 90s alt-rock), and fill it all with so much exuberance and joy of playing that each song becomes a triumph over anxiety and ennui. Visits finds each of the band’s five members stepping outside of themselves, but not in an snake-poison-ingesting, flopping-on-the-floor sense. It’s something else, something full of wonder. It’s witnessing a dear friend suddenly unveil an incredible hidden talent, as if that talent is levitation or some shit. These songs burst and evolve like water capsule toys. Warm beds of wobbly and fat-bodied krautpop prove to be overwhelming, atmospheric art-rock tours de force. You are left pie-eyed and windblown by the whole glorious affair. It’s the B-side of Neu! 75 as pep rally music. It’s the kind of thing that would have flipped Old Man Peel’s wig in another place and time.

The Coathangers
    Thursday March 15, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)
The Coathangers were a band before they were musicians. The Atlanta quartet started out as an excuse to hang out and play parties. Their jokey attitude ran deep, right down to their name—a self-admittedly crude abortion reference for an all-girl group. The whole knowing-how-to-play-an-instrument thing was just a minor hurdle in their musical mission. And to their credit, The Coathangers stormed onto the scene, regardless of the handicap, as a completely unaffected, unpretentious, deliciously sloppy, and totally infectious rock band. What they lacked in formal training they made up for in an innate understanding of how to craft a hook and propel a song forward on sheer charisma. It was impossible not to like them.

This Will Destroy You
    Thursday March 15, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)

THIS WILL DESTROY YOU began in earnest during the mid-00’s in San Marcos, TX. In many ways, the initial sound of the band was the logical destination point for four friends (Christopher Royal King, Jeremy Galindo, Raymond Brown, and Andrew Miller) that had been playing in a variety of bands together throughout their teens. In 2005, the group began writing and recording what was intended to be a simple 6-song documentation of where they were at musically. Externally, Brown had been accepted into medical school, King was working on high profile graphic design gigs, and the four genuinely thought that they’d be moving into other fields, ultimately requiring the dissolution of the band.

Future of the Left
    Friday March 16, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)

Future Of The Left’s upcoming album, The Plot Against Common Sense, will be the group’s third full-length release. Teased with the Polymers Are Forever EP released in late 2011, this album will expand on the band’s razor sharp and brash sound. Pitchfork.com proclaimed, “It’s been far, far too long since we last heard from Welsh rabblerousers Future of the Left, with 2009’s awesome Travels With Myself and Another being their last missive.”
Three years later, Future of the Left is ready to release new material under a new label and with a new lineup. The quartet parted ways with 4AD last year and welcomed Julia Ruzicka (bass) to the FOTL crew, which currently consists of former Mclusky members and FOTL cofounders, Andrew Falkous (vocals and guitar) and Jack Egglestone (drums), as well as Jimmy Watkins (guitar). “This certainly isn’t the sound of a shaken band though: time away from the studio has seen the members dig further into their unclassifiable, noisy nook” said BBC.com of Polymers Are Forever.
With the full-length’s release date fast-approaching, “perennial industry curmudgeons” should rejoice, said CMJ.com. Fans’ smiles should be extended even further with news of Future of the Left’s upcoming worldwide tour plans spanning 2012.

Magic Wands
    Friday March 16, 2012 7:30pm - 8:10pm @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)

From Michael Toland, The Austin Chronicle:

Jail Guitar Doors' mission is both simple (donating musical instruments to prisoners) and complex (hoping those instruments will help in those prisoners' rehabilitation). The South by Southwest edition begins with Magic Wands, an androgynous, slinky Nashville, Tenn., duo whose sexy psychedelia finds the sweet spot between the Raveonettes and Tom Tom Club. Power trio Beware of Darkness hail from Los Angeles and have been likened to a cross between Led Zeppelin and David Bowie's Hunky Dory with a literary bent. North Carolina's Flagship revolves around the dramatic keen of Drake Margolnick, who leads his band to howl, seethe, or soothe. Local garage-rock ensemble and veteran JGD supporters English Teeth is joined here by Ryan Bingham bassist-turned-singer Elijah Ford and underrated Americana rebel Otis Gibbs. Wayne Kramer, JGD co-founder and rock & roll legend, never fails to kick out the jams, motherfucker, and never more so than in support of a righteous cause. Taking a break from the Rage Against the Machine reunion, Tom Morello, aka the Nightwatchman, brings his postmodern protest songs to the headline slot.

Deleted Scenes
    Saturday March 17, 2012 7:00pm - 7:40pm @ Swan Dive (615 Red River St)
Deleted Scenes will release Young People’s Church of the Air on Sockets Records on CD (Sept. 6) and LP (Sept. 20). This second album builds on the “thoughtful existentialism and strange, drowsy downers“ of their 2009 debut, Birdseed Shirt (Pitchfork, 8.0), pushing the band’s formidable rhythm section further, and exploring the possibility of hope.
Grabbing rhythmic feels from 80s pop, R&B, surf rock, dark funk, and Go-Go, Young People’s Church of the Air showcases Deleted Scenes discovering what it can do. Drummer Brian Hospital introduces the double-kick pedal to art rock with thoughtful drum arrangements. The lyrics find Daniel Scheuerman taking risks to explore themes of family, love, death and joy in a self-devouring poetic style. The album’s production is fuzzy and warped, inspired by the cassette warble of Southeast Asian psych-pop and the detuned stew of Elliott Smith’s final album, From a Basement on the Hill.
