Candy
    Tuesday March 13, 2012 8:00pm - 8:40pm @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)
CANDY is an independent Mexican Post-punk New-wave band that was formed in 2005. They are 3 multi-national musicians that were born and raised in various parts of the planet, before meeting in Mexico where they have known each other and played together since their teens. CANDY wants to surprise, awake, make people dance inside and outside themselves to their sometimes quirky, playful, noisy, other times elegant, intense and dark music and lyrics. Their always varying inspiration sources are Psychoanalysis, Scandinavian films, German literature and Mexican lifestyle.
They have released an LP Stranger (2009) and have an upcoming second LP Control to be released in February 2012, which was produced by Café Tacvba’s Joselo Rangel and Liquits’ Ro Velázquez.

Il Abanico
    Tuesday March 13, 2012 9:00pm - 9:40pm @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)
Il abanico is an Indie/Experimental band created in 2010 by Nicolás Losada (guitar) and Juliana Ronderos (Voice). They expose their personalities with innovative melodies, an upbeat rhythm section and unorthodox guitars. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, this duo spent fall of 2010 composing what would become their first work “Crossing Colors” (February 2011). A 5 songs EP, recorded in well renowned Studio G (temporal studio for the Black Keys) in Brooklyn, NY.
Established in Boston MA, and playing around the east coast area, Il abanico started to play with a full band. The new band members captured the attention of many blogs and interviews because of their diverse nationalities. Il abanico has grown rapidly, and in September 2011 they toured their way across the US from Boston to LA where they have now settled. It was a successful 18-date tour which included cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, Austin, San Diego and Los Angeles, amongst others. Having played over 60 shows this year, il abanico is currently living and working in LA, performing and writing material for their new album.

Jerusalem & the Starbaskets
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 9:00pm - 9:40pm @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Since its beginnings, Jerusalem has performed highly approachable country-fried psych that goes over well in a variety of venues; still, rather than surrounding itself by similarly styled outfits, the band has consistently worked with highly experimental acts—noise beasts Warhammer 48k, acid folk duo Wooden Wand, krautrockers Cave. This embrace of experimentation has leaked into its music without detracting from its accessibility. At its core singe, the band consists of singer/guitarist Jeremy Freeze and drummer Kim Sherman who have toured together for the last 10 years, and now guitarist and former bassist for the Lost Sounds, John Garland. Their latest album, Dost rose through the college music charts and they were listed amongst Magnet Magazine's 2011 Hidden Treasures.

Circuit Des Yeux
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 10:00pm - 10:40pm @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)
At just 22 years old, Indiana’s Haley Fohr has already undergone the sort of transformation that scarcely strikes musicians two or three times her age. The release this year of Portrait, her third solo album as Circuit des Yeux (in addition to two EP releases — all on the long-running Minneapolis art-rock label De Stijl), reveals a singer-songwriter with the incredibly rare power of immediate communication. You can compare her to others who’ve come before — even names ranging from Abbey Lincoln to Bob Dylan and (the curse of every recent singer who happens to be female) Cat Power’s Chan Marshall — but only in that Fohr shares their unmistakeable and arresting ability to connect the personal with the universal. Like a bolt, she makes listeners understand exactly where she’s coming from, and where they stand in relation, and what it all means. Clearly, as a musician, Fohr is an artist in full, and as an artist, she is constantly in motion.

Chris Forsyth
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 11:00pm - 11:40pm @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Guitarist Chris Forsyth's hypnotic compositions assimilate minimalism and psychedelia with art rock, folk, and blues influences. He has toured throughout Europe and the US, sharing stages with such like-minded artists as Träd Gräs och Stenar, Steve Gunn, Bill Orcutt, and Ignatz, and as a member of gothic junk folk expressionists Peeesseye, the group he founded in 2002. Paranoid Cat, Forsyth's third LP, was released in March 2011 on Family Vineyard and has been described as "the work of an emergent master" (Uncut) and "a rapturous transmutation of noise into light" (Wire). In December 2011, Family Vineyard re-issued his Dreams LP, originally released in 2009 as an edition of 100 on his own Evolving Ear label, and Blackest Rainbow issued Early Astral, and LP collaboration with Koen Holtkamp of Mountains. Forsyth is a recipient of a 2011 Pew Fellowship in the Arts and lives in the City of Philadelphia, Penn.

Apache Dropout
    Thursday March 15, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)
Apache Dropout is a full on lysergic boogie trio from Southern Indiana. They've self-released a handful of recordings while touring the sub-U.S. during the past couple years. Their debut self-titled LP was released in early 2011 on Family Vineyard and has been heralded as the best garage album of the year by likes of Mojo, Uncut and Dusted. With mostly guitar/bass/drums they channel soul melodies, primitive rock thump and blasted solos and turn them into highly textured nuggets of punk art. In wake of the LP, the labels Mexican Summer and Trouble in Mind have issued 7" records by Apache Dropout in 2011. Formed in 2008, the group's previous endeavors include John Wilkes Booze (Kill Rock Stars), Hot Fighter #1 and Lord Fyre (Emperor Jones).

Wet Hair
    Thursday March 15, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)
Wet Hair is Shawn Reed, Justin Thye, and Ryan Garbes, the two remaining members of Raccoo-oo-oon that stayed in Iowa City after the band’s end. Reed also runs Night-People Records, which Garbes often contributes to. Wet Hair began as a solo outing for Reed in late 2007 during the final months of Raccoo-oo-oon, and after the release of a 12” EP and the Irifi Cassette Garbes was added on organ and live drums. Wet Hair has evolved over time shifting the bands sound steadily towards a more refined pop sensibility. An experimental attitude and psychedelic atmosphere still prevails in Wet Hair’s music and the core instrumentation of the band has largey stayed consitent throughout with Reed on vocals, synth, drum machine, + tapes and Garbes on live drums, + synth/organ.

Tommy Stinson
    Sunday March 18, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

It would be hard to find a character in rock and roll who has played the part better than Tommy Stinson. From his beginnings as bassist of the legendary Replacements to his current tenure with Guns N’ Roses and Soul Asylum, Tommy has always done things his own way and has lived to tell the tale.
The story begins with seminal Minneapolis band The Replacements. Tommy started the group with his big brother Bob at the tender age of 13. His spirited bass playing, sense of style, and impenetrable bullshit detector helped make the band special. He dropped out of high school a few years later to focus on touring full-time, and hasn’t looked back. Until the Replacements unceremonious demise in 1991, Tommy and his bandmates found themselves hazily thrashing through the world with reckless abandon. Their unpredictable shows are the stuff of legend — nobody that has ever seen the Replacements on stage will ever forget it. In the end, all he had to show for it was a few bruises and a hell of a reputation to uphold.
Only 24 when the band broke up, Tommy set off on his own and formed the Faces-flavored group Bash & Pop. In 1993, Bash & Pop released the album Friday Night Is Killing Me on Warner Bros. His next group, the power-pop quartet Perfect, released a highly acclaimed EP and created a big buzz on the L.A. music scene. However, their 1997 full-length album was shelved due to record label tomfoolery. It was eventually released in 2004, under the name Once, Twice, Three Times a Maybe.
Tommy’s life took yet another interesting turn in 1998, when Axl Rose asked him to be the new bassist in Guns N’ Roses. Since then, he has writing, recording, and touring the world with them. His fingerprints are all over the Chinese Democracy album and his signature presence on stage adds a unique dimension to this notoriously great live band.
In 2004, Stinson released his first solo album Village Gorilla Head on Sanctuary Records. It was well received by the music press and fans alike. He subsequently toured behind the album backed by his friends The Figgs and Alien Crime Syndicate as his backing bands.
In 2005, Tommy was asked to fill in on bass for Soul Asylum (with his high school pal Dave Pirner) after bassist and founding member Karl Mueller succumbed to cancer. The following year he helped finish recording The Silver Lining album with them. He still writes, records, and plays shows with the band whenever he can, and relishes playing with his old friends.
There are no plans of slowing down in the future for our fearless friend. In August 2011, Tommy will release a new solo effort entitled One Man Mutiny on his own Done To Death Music and as well as continue to tour with Guns N’ Roses and Soul Asylum.

Biters
    Sunday March 18, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ The Whiskey Room (503 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

"I guess releasing one outta-this-world album in 2010 wasn’t enough for these power pop superheroes because they’ve gone ahead and dropped yet another five-song masterpiece on us like a sack full o’ diamonds. Seriously, if they keep this up my heart’s gonna explode in a shower of cocktail napkin confetti. But really, can you think of a better way to go? Sure, you’re saying, when I’m balls deep in ...a teenage scream queen. Well, I got news for ya, friend. This is better than that. I’ll take your juicy thighs and smeared lipstick and raise you an orgy of rock n’ roll, cotton candy, jungle cats, wet tongues, and champagne bubbles. It’s just all sorts of crazy good stuff, ya know? When I had a go at their self-titled EP, I said that if the Biters weren’t the biggest band in the world real soon that we’d all be doomed, and I believe that now more than ever. So do the Biters apparently, who are doing their part by releasing the most amazing music at a roller-skate pace. It may be OK to like Biters, but it’s better to fucking love Biters. In fact, it’s pretty much mandatory." -Jeff/ BrokenBeard.com
